My journey navigating through hip-hop has always been an interesting one- like with many things, I was never influenced by the taste of someone else, I always made my own decisions. I was a big Mos Def fan, so I was heavily anticipating the release of his second album The New Danger. To me this album is a classic and helped shape a lot of my writing and style.
As an eleven year old listening to the intro, I was pulled in- it was like a trance while trying to figure out how an artist could create such magic- though it technically wasn’t a song, that is the track I gravitate to the most when going back to the album.
I broke the lyrics down into 14 sections, and from those 14 sections I am going to create 14 brand spanking new poems --- I boldly posted that I was going to write 11 new pieces this weekend, but overall right now I’m just trying to be consistent ---- writing is one of my main passions and I believe it will be the key to help me accomplish my goals in life.
I will be working and editing on the material daily, but yeah, by the end of the journey I will have 14 new bodies of work that I will be able to perform in front of an audience.
