On Feb 18th I had a feature at Barnes N Noble in Pennsylvania, the second time I’ve featured at that Barnes N Noble. I was especially looking forward to this feature because it was alongside Ameerah Shabazz-Bilal, Big Mike, and James Ellerbe, three poets that I have known for many years (Big Mike I have known for almost 20). The second piece I performed was from the thirteen piece collection that I need to get moving on – I read it in homage to Ameerah because there is often a belief that if you read your work (that is off a phone or a piece of paper, books are excluded) that you aren’t prepared as an artist, and often that isn’t the case. Memorization for many isn’t an easy skill, and some of the best poets that I admire often read their work.
