I was driving in New Brunswick with my mother last week when she saw something that looked familiar. “Didn’t you used to perform somewhere over here?”
The moment was over 10 years ago, and the place has changed at least 5 times since. Though food/drink store in New Brunswick come and go all the time, poetry spots have not shared the same fate.
On Saturday I went to a show in New Brunswick that is gaining solid footing and continues to have great turnouts… Hub City Poetry, hosted by M.I.
I performed my version of Chamber Music, a poem written by the great Amiri Baraka- I say my version because 1) I’ve never heard him perform it before so his tone/approach could be a lot different than mine, and 2) I added on to it with a direction that I was taken.
Had a great time overall, strong performances/poems and I actually talked to a few people about….. poetry.
Definitely happy that there is a local spot so I can perform and get home before 11:30 lol.
Monthly event.
